Not doing an all-out review of my 2019 CD purchases, but you can get the perFUNctory assESSment here, before I rank my Top 10 list at the end of the year. (Please Note: the Amazon links on this page will take you to... wait for it... Amazon, and if you end up purchasing an item – and I mean... ANY item on Amazon, not necessarily the one I linked — my site will earn a referral fee from the Amazon. Please consider using our Amazon links to access Amazon whenever you think of buying something from Amazon. Sheesh... Now, that was a whole lot of Amazon. By doing so, you will help me; keep the costs of maintenance low, those pesky ads at bay, and provide you with many more reviews. Did I mention the best part yet? It won't cost you a penny. Sincerely, Thank You for the support.) HESS – Harpokrates Hailing from Argentina, Hess is one of the greatest discoveries of an unknown act in 2019, for me. Their sound reminded me of the Di'Anno era Iron Maiden, minus the galloping rhythm section. Most of the titles clock out at, or around the 7 minutes mark, which leaves plenty of room for Diego Schmidhalter to solo over multiple breaks in each song. Speaking of solo's, they are the most innovative ones I heard in 2019. Well thought out, and executed pieces. Melani Hess' powerful yet melodic voice is much appreciated in the whirlpool of symphonic sopranos. Can't believe I haven't heard of Hess before, and the fact that I did, can be accredited to Youtube's sidebar suggestions. At last, someone got the algorithm right.
